No one slept much last night, as usual the night before a hike. Hit the trail at 8:30am and hiked the length of the Lyell Canyon (9+ miles) by noon. Had to keep pushing to get to the intended campsite at the base of Donahue Pass so we can have an easier day tomorrow and beat the rain. We walked 11.4 miles today, gained about 1600 feet in elevation. We got to camp, 10,200 ft, about 5pm after waiting out the weather lower down from 2:30-4pm (which turned out to be nothing. This campsite is so beautiful with a beautiful river and the impressive dark grey granite face of Mt. Lyell looking down on us, complete with a white glacier. It’s quite impressive. It’s 8:15pm and we are all tucked into our tents about ready to sleep, ha.
